Like spreading a layer of soothing honey on your insides, this collection of demulcent herbs is crafted for those times when the stomach and upper GI feel hot, irritated, or tender. Add 1 tsp per cup of boiling water and steep 15+ min (longer steeps or a cool infusion can draw more mucilage). Sip 2–3 cups daily, or as needed.

Weight: 90 g (40–60 servings)

Ingredients:

    • Althaea officinalis (marshmallow)
Root rich in mucilage polysaccharides (e.g., arabinogalactans) that form a protective, moisturizing film over mucous membranes—soothing irritation and supporting normal repair.
    • Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice)

Demulcent and sweet; glycyrrhizin and flavonoids help maintain the stomach’s mucus layer, support healthy inflammatory tone, and ease spasm—traditional anti-ulcer support.

    • Filipendula ulmaria (meadowsweet)

Astringent, mucilage-bearing leaf/flower with natural salicylates and tannins that calm acidity sensations and tone inflamed tissue while supporting comfortable digestion.

    • Stachys betonica / S. officinalis (betony)

Grounding, aromatically warm leaf long used to release head/neck tension and encourage ease.

(Ulmus spp. “slippery elm” is no longer part of this formula due to sustainability concerns.)

          Precautions:
Licorice is not for use in pregnancy except under qualified supervision and is not recommended for individuals with hypertension, liver disorders, edema, severe kidney insufficiency, low potassium, or heart disease. Meadowsweet contains natural salicylates; avoid if you have a known aspirin/salicylate sensitivity or are on anticoagulant therapy. Marshmallow’s mucilage may reduce absorption of medications; take herbs and medications at least 2 hours apart. As always, consult a qualified herbalist and/or healthcare practitioner if you are pregnant, nursing, have a medical condition, or take medications.
